Making an immensely shocking disclosure, a recently concluded study, which was carried out by the researchers from University of Washington School of Medicine, has made it clear that consuming a diet high in fat content may well result in making influential changes in the human brain that further results in making it extremely dubious for people to shed some of their unwanted kilos.
The researchers have claimed that the consequences are extensive and severely vital as the fat rich diet has the potential of making harm regardless of the extent and amount of intake.
During the course of the study, which has been made available in the recent online edition (December 27) of the Journal of Clinical Investigation, the researchers carried out their initial trials on rodents.
The team of researchers observed that when animals were placed on a diet extensively rich in fat content, they developed a variety of damages in various regions of their brain, especially in the region known as hypothalamus which holds the responsibility of controlling the urge for eating. The region is also responsible for sending crucial signals with the intent of stopping further consumption when there is no need for more.
In addition, the researchers claimed that indications of similar brain damage have also been identified in people struggling from obesity.
While expressing his opinion regarding the findings and the significance of their study, an Endocrinologist from the University who co-led the research, Michael Schwartz said, “Within 24 hours of switching rodents to a high-fat diet, we found injury in the hypothalamus area”.
As per the researchers, obesity has an extremely high tendency of inspiring inflammations in the organs as well as tissues. It is not exactly the same kind of inflammation as witnessed during the course of an allergic reaction, though it generally tends to hold a comparatively lower level of inflammation persisting in the body.
