Chen is the first person in China to die from bird flu. Soon after his death, a sense of pandemic has been created in Shenzhen, Chen’s city that hosts around 10 million residents. Officials have been continuously passing on this message that residents do not need to panic as this virus is not communicable.
The Shenzhen Disease Control Centre revealed that Chen was a bus driver who contracted the disease from poultry, and later died from it. He developed fever on December 21 and on finding that his condition was deteriorating, he was taken to hospital.
There, he was diagnosed with acute pneumonia, and later lost his life. Shenzhen is a place where already hundreds of poultry have been culled as three birds were tested with H5N1 virus.
Since his death, Chinese and Hong Kong authorities have been working to catch hold the problem. This is the reason that they ahev suspended live poultry in markets. Not only this, they have been passing bird flu message through different mediums so people could reduce their intake of poultry. Even it is also suggested that those who remain in contact with poultry should avoid doing that.
The World Health Organization (WHO) said it is a matter of great concern that bird flu has started taking toll on humans. It gets more worrisome when it was found that Chain is the place where death has occurred as this nation has world’s biggest poultry market.
So, it would be important for them to control the problem as soon as possible. Bird flu is said to be fatal among humans in 60% of cases, but it is also true that it does not get pass on to humans that easily. Chinese officials said: “Though it is highly pathogenic to human beings, the virus can not spread among people”.
