Argentina's President Fernandez Set for Cancer Surgery

Argentine President Mrs. Christina Kirchner is suffering from cancer in her thyroid and will be soon undergoing a surgery for same. Though the procedure is relatively simpler and since the leader’s cancer has been detected before its spread to any other part of her body, the doctors are assuring speedy recovery for her.

Despite the sentences of relief from medical professionals, the supporters of the President are lacking no strength to stand out all the long time in night until their president is out of her surgery of thyroid cancer.

Reports have confirmed that the supporters of Argentine leader have plans to gather at 1 am on Wednesday in the capital's Plaza de Mayo and also outside the Hospital Austral to keep an overnight vigil. Some more supporters could also be found at many other public squares around the country.

The doctors have already cleared that the procedure for Thyroid removal is very simple and also they have confirmed that the procedure is followed with a very speedy recovery.

As far as the case of the 58-year-old leader is concerned, she is suffering from papillary thyroid carcinoma that has luckily been detected before it would have spread to other parts of the body, thereby making the procedure tougher as she would not be undergoing any chemotherapy procedures, says doctor.

Vice-President Amado Boudou has been temporarily handed over the whole charge until at least 20 days during which the president will recovery from the surgery.

Elected as country's first female president, Mrs. Christina was detected with cancer in her right lobe of the thyroid gland while she was on a routine medical examination on December 22.

“The prospects are excellent and one would not expect any further growth of the tumor after the operation”, said Dr. Mario Bruno, an oncologist and a member of the Argentina Association of Cancer.
