It has been reported that HeartWare International and Dualis MedTech have joined hands with the aim of coming up with a wireless ventricular assisting device and transcutaneous energy transfer system. The devices thus created will exclusively be available to HeartWare. The agreement holds the potential of improving the quality of care being provided to patients.
The HeartWare would be advantageous from the deal as it will boost the company with upgraded technology. It has been informed that transcutaneous energy transfer system would be designed in such a way that the patients are provided with power for the daily needs.
Since 2011, the two firms have been working towards entering into an agreement. However, as per the agreement signed by the two, HeartWare would be providing funding for the development program for left ventricular assisting devices (LVADs). Moreover, the firm has also been provided with an option of funding various programs designed to exploring developments in bi-ventricular support and more.
While commenting upon the agreement, Doug Godshall, the CEO and the President of HeartWare, was reported as saying, "What makes us most enthusiastic about this alliance is the expertise, passion and creativity of the people at Dualis … and we now have access to the talents and ideas of the team at Dualis”.
It has been informed by the CEO and Managing Director for Dualis MedTech, Dr. Thomas Schmid that through this agreement, the company would be focusing over joining Dualis’ HVAD and MVAD pumps with energy transfer system.
In the past, the researchers have already conducted a number of studies over animals using their latest technology. However, it will be for the first time when the technology would be used over humans. It is hoped that through this agreement, the quality of care provided to patients would improve.
