It has been recently revealed that the HIV-1 viral load in the blood of the person is one of the deadliest forms of spreading the infection. This is said to be the case at least for the African couples that are serodiscordant, as per the recent study conducted.
The research done by James P. Hughes, PhD of the University of Washington, is of the view that each log 10 increase seen in the plasma HIV-1 RNA, leads to an increase of 2.9 times, in the risk of transmission each time a sexual act is performed.
This means that there is all the more chance of spreading the deadly infection now. There is need for a proper system of management to be made for the effective prevention of the disease, with the help of the available knowledge as well as the factors that contribute towards the onset of the disease. Thus is the first of its kind study for the possibility of infection of HIV-1 together with the time variations that tend to occur in the RNA of the plasma.
For the study there were as many as 3,297 couples enrolled, from the Partners in Prevention Herpes. Both the partners in the couple were tested for the disease from time to time.
It is essential in the current scenario that people become more and more alert towards the various ways in which they can be gripped by the disease. There is need for one and all to be careful about safe sex and should never forget protection measures like condoms and contraceptive pills. It is important that the measures of safe sex are followed so that people steer clear from this infection, which is potentially fatal.
