UK diets lack enough veggies, fruits

A study has stated that not enough quantity of vegetables and fruits are being consumed by Britons and this is being done despite advice on nutritional intake very easily available.

UK is at the fourth place when it comes to consuming veggies and fruits according to a review of eating habits in 19 EU countries.

European Food Information Council, EUFIC, had carried out the review.

Guidelines state that 386 gms of fruits and veggies are suppose to be consumed by an average European everyday but Britons eat 258 gms of fruit and vegetables every day.

The World Health Organization recommends about 400 gms of fruits and veggies everyday and the UK average also falls short of that also.

The set guidelines were followed by four European countries and these were Poland, Italy, Germany and Austria.

The EUFIC report said, “A majority of Europeans do not reach WHO recommendations on vegetables and fruit consumption. Consumption varies, with higher intakes in southern compared to the northern regions.”

There are lot problems that can be avoided by taking freshies like heart problems, chronic diseases and type 2 diabetes and also some cancers.
