Lenovo is displaying its pepped-up workstation line with two new models - the ThinkStation D20 and S20 - at this week's Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. Both the new computers - designed for professionals involved in digital content creation (DCC), computer-aided design (CAD), and engineering design automation fields - are aimed at high-end developers and users.

The new offerings from Lenevo are computers presented with the Nvidia Tesla C1060 platform, especially useful for companies looking to convert the systems into desktop supercomputers.

Using the "green computing" workstation editions of the new Nehalem processor design that makes up the Core i7, the refreshed Lenovo systems offer a choice of Intel Xeon quad-core or dual-core 5500 and W3500 series processors. Furthermore, the systems are either equipped with the Nvidia Quadro professional graphics cards; or offer an optional ATI FirePro graphics from Advanced Micro Devices.

Some other features of the Lenovo systems comprise a hard-disk drive with up to 1 TB of storage; up to 96 GB of system memory; and an optional Blu-ray disc burner. With green chasses, both models use 50% recycled plastic content, and nearly 26% post-consumer plastic content.

The ISV-certified workstations can run with Windows Vista, XP or Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.2; and would be available at the starting price of $1,070 and $1,550 for the S20 and D20 respectively.
