Cochrane Collaboration Doubts the Efficacy of Tamiflu

As per reported information, the Cochrane Collaboration has blamed pharmaceutical giant Roche for withholding information in regard to its swine flu pandemic drug Tamiflu. Earlier, in 2009 a review got published in the British Medical Journal about Tamiflu.

In it, experts said that the drug is quite beneficial to cut the severe symptoms of the disease. But as of now, it has been reported that the drug is not that effective. Moreover, they cannot say that the drugs have more advantages than disadvantages.

The Cochrane Collaboration experts said that they have conducted a review of as many as 20 studies. They have found that this drug is not at all effective in reducing the influenza-related lower respiratory tract complications.

Not only this, the experts blamed Roche for not providing accurate information about the drug and also suspect that they have withheld some valuable information with them. But this review has not stopped the drug to be sold in the market. It is still available for use and is being circulated at high levels.

Roche has not accepted any of the claims that are being made by the Cochrane Collaboration experts. They affirmed that they have provided complete details to the government.

They further affirmed, "Roche has made full clinical study data available to health authorities around the world for their review as part of the licensing process. It is the role of global health authorities to review detailed information on medicines when assessing benefit/risk".

None of the explanation being provided by Roche has calmed the experts. They affirmed that 60% people who were involved in the stage three clinical trials have never been published in any of the journal or in periodical.

This is another reason for which they doubt on the authenticity of the drug. Experts said if Roche has not concealed any information then they should provide them every single detail about the drug.
