It has been recently revealed that a fake antimalaria medication has become the reason for harming the progress of the malaria control drive running in Africa. It is a place where there are most of the cases of the disease. People die due to the same each year, and there is dire need for finding a proper mode of preventing the same.

It was revealed by the team of researchers from the Wellcome Trust-Mahosot Hospital, from the Oxford University. They are of the view that these fake and unworthy medicines might be the reason for losing the fight against the disease in the time to come.

As a part of the poor manufacturing practice, the nation is slowly being plagued with these fake drugs, which don’t seem to have any correct effect on the disease. The only thing they seem to be contributing towards is increasing the drug resistance among the parasites which will further lead to worsening the situation.

According to the experts, the best antimalaria drugs are supposed to be Artemisinin. These tend to work better and faster than the other medicines like mefloquine. These medicines tend to have side effects as well sometimes. There is currently need for such an ideal treatment for the cure of malaria, which is safe, effective and reliable.

"Public health organizations must take urgent, coordinated action to prevent the circulation of counterfeit and substandard medicines and improve the quality of the medicines that patients receive. We must move finally away from the use of single drugs”, said the lead researcher Dr. Paul Newton.

There is need to do away with the wrong breed of medications and find something that is actually effective in fighting the scenario in Africa.
