SOPA, PIPA Supporters Changing Stand

As per reports, it has been revealed that many renowned people and lawmakers, who were earlier supporting the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the Protect IP Act (PIPA), have now changed their reversed their position on both the bills.

They are of the view that there is no doubt that internet protection is needed, but it could also be achieved by protecting complete freedom and open access to the internet. This act would need an open discussion so they could take out a more viable solution.

Republican Sen, who was earlier supporting SOPA has now withdrawn his support and is in favor of a workable solution. It is certainly a big win for protestors and people to get his support as he was the co-sponsor of PIPA.

Another person who has changed his stand is Republican Lee Terry, who is an original co-sponsor of SOPA. He affirmed that he has already requested to have his name removed from the bill. He also feels that a midway could be taken out.

Sen said, “Instead, we should take more time to address the concerns raised by all sides, and come up with new legislation that addresses Internet piracy while protecting free and open access to the Internet. Rubio wrote on a Facebook post”.

After hearing the support news, different internet sites have thanked people for their immense support. They have even put up a thank you note for their visitors which read that this would not have been possible without them.

One such site to do that is Wikipedia which blacked out on Wednesday and returned on Thursday with a thank you note. But, they also affirmed that a lot more needs to be done.
