34-Year-Old Faced World’s First Triple Limb Surgery

A recent report has revealed that Akdeniz University Hospital in southern Turkey has conducted the world’s first triple limb surgery which included two arms and one right leg. Dr. Omer Ozkan, who led the surgery, revealed that they have to remove the leg as tissues were not matching with the recipient’s part.

Atilla Kavdir, 34, is the one who has undergone triple limb surgery. As per medical reports, Kavdir is said to be recovering well, but it would take some time before the surgery team could declare him completely well.

Ozkan said that Kavdir lost his both arms and right leg at the time when he was just 11-years-old. It was an accident where Kavdir got an electric shock at the time when he was trying to scare away pigeon with an iron rod.

This is not the end of accomplishment of Akdeniz University Hospital, as they have also conducted a complete face transplant surgery on a 19- year -old young man, whose body parts were used for Kadar’s surgery.

Another surgeon who was involved in the surgery Dr. Israfil Kurtcephe told that triple limb surgery took them 12 hours while face transplant surgery took them nine hours. He further affirmed, "We have a critical 10-15-day period ahead of us for both operations, but if we pull through this period we will be making history”.
