Following the shutdown of Megaupload, file sharing sites have become alert as it is believed that users are using such sites to circulate pirated content of Hollywood. Because of the brooding fears, sites like FileSonic, FileServe and Uploaded has closed down movie sharing services from their sites.
The editor-in chief of security blog Threatpost, Dennis Fisher, was reported saying, “It looks like the chilling effect has already started. Maybe one of the reasons the U. S. government is going after companies alleged to be hosting infringing content is to serve as a deterrent for others engaging in similar activity”.
It has been informed that file sharing services allows the users to upload, and save the music and movies suites on the Internet cloud. As the owners of the sharing sites have not come up with the strategy to deal with growing menace of infringement, the services of movie sharing is being halted.
Dropbox, MediaFire, FilesTube and FileSonic are file sharing sites which are said to be going through severe scrutiny as it is suspected that pirated movies are shared on such sites. The popularity of the file sharing sites in the past few years has increased manifolds.
Following the fears of infringement activities, FileSonic has shut down its movie sharing services. On its website, FileSonic wrote: “All sharing functionality on FileSonic is now disabled. Our service can only be used to upload and retrieve files that you have uploaded personally”.
It has come to light that MediaFire has as many as 25 million users. It site is confident that it would not face the consequences similar to that of Megaupload. It has said that it will continue its business as usual. Piracy is a crime which is punishable under law. The authorities concerned are conducting investigations over the file sharing sites.
