It seems that it would take ample time to control the number of deaths triggered by alcohol in Scotland as a recent report has showed some glaring statistics to reveal the concerning rise in patients. It was told that in comparison to 641 people who died in 1979 from alcohol-related conditions, there were 1,318 people being affected by the same at present.
There is need for more attention to be paid to this contentious issue to get rid of the scar of alcoholism. The report from the General Register Office for Scotland has showed that there was an increase of 3% in the number of deaths triggered from alcohol consumption between 2009 and 2010.
With the glaring rise in the number of patients and consequent deaths, there is need for concrete measures to be placed in the system to get it repaired. This is need for the government to step in and bring the issue to the front before things go out of hand. It is being believed that the way alcohol is being marketed in Britain, it has caught the attention of many and perhaps this is what has raised the level of alcohol consumption among the Britons.
It is being said by Jennifer Curran, Head of policy, research and communications at Alcohol Focus Scotland, that there has been an increase of 22% in alcohol consumption per adult in the UK, which has played crucial role in instigating the death rate in the last 30 years.
Among all, Glasgow was found to have the maximum number of alcohol-related deaths, followed by Glasgow and then Edinburgh. It was in 1990s that the consumption rate started rising and from there on, there seems to be no reduction in the intake, particularly for men, during the 1990s and the early 2000s.
"We believe minimum pricing would be the most effective and efficient way to tackle alcohol misuse as it would effectively target problem drinkers and help them reduce their consumption", said a Scottish Government spokesman.
