Research Underway To Find Cure of Ovarian Cancer

It seems that there could be some hope ahead of those who are suffering from ovarian cancer as it has been found that there are more chances for women with the BRCA 1 and 2 mutations to survive once they are identified with epithelial ovarian cancer. There is need for women to be given the best possible treatment for the same.

Published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, a team led by Dr. Paul Pharoah examined the results of 24 international trials and looked at 1,200 patients with the faulty genes. “Women with BRCA faults respond better than we thought to current treatments, but it’s important researchers now look at what treatment approaches work best for women without those genetic faults”, said the lead author.

However, the difference of five years in survical is not found in those women who are suffering from breast cancer having faulty BRCA genes. Thus, it is being believed that there could a lot be done to make ovarian cancer patients safe as compared to others. Moreover, there are reports indicating that there is a trial being done in Australasia, Europe and the USA, which could make significant difference in the life of ovarian cancer patients. The trial is based to find a new immunotherapy treatment called CVac . It is being believed this treatment uses the cells of the patients to revitalize the immune system, thereby attacking the cancer cells.

The research is still own to ensure that the chances of one’s survival with the new therapy could be raised. While the study is getting the attention of one and all, Dr. James Benton, Cancer Research UK's ovarian cancer clinician, is of the opinion that there is still lot to be done before saying that a sure shot cure of ovarian cancer has been found.
