Moderate Physical Workout is Beneficial For Arthritis Patients

A research has revealed that sedentary lifestyle is the biggest enemy for people suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. The study which appeared in the Arthritis Care & Research has also acted as a myth breaker for those who think that rest and medication is the best treatment for arthritis patients.

However, through their research it has got revealed that exercise and physical movement is best thing a person could do to keep their joints flexible.

Lead author Jungwha Lee, who is an Assistant Professor in the department of preventive medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, said, "Our results suggest that public health initiatives need to address the lack of motivation to exercise and to promote the benefits of physical activity to reduce the prevalence of inactivity in those with rheumatoid arthritis".

Lee thinks that their study would encourage not only arthritis patients but other general population to be active in their life. Physical movement keeps joints lubricated and helps a person to remain protected from arthritis or any other bone related problem.

In order to reach at the above conclusion, Lee looked at the data of 176 people who were suffering from arthritis. The minimum age of the patients was 18 years and all the volunteers were asked to take part in the physical assessment.

Some other factors which were also monitored during the study were link between sedentary lifestyle and obesity and frequency of pain in the joints. After evaluating all the factors, it got revealed that 42% volunteers led inactive life and did not take part in the moderate physical works such as brisk walking.

Another thing that Lee noticed was that if people were motivated to do light exercises and moderate physical work then they were quite regular in doing that. It helped them to have less pain and improved health.
