In wake of fighting the rising epidemic of child obesity in the country there are new school menu rules going to be incorporated by the USDA. These shall come into effect next year and might surely help towards forming a way to healthier children in the time to come.
Children tend to eat all the wrong and unhealthy sort of food at schools. There is need for making them understand the need for choosing healthy food. It would be a great way if small steps are taken towards making these good habits in children. They need to be taught to choose a fruit over a doughnut and this can be done only if things start this way for them at school. They need to be served healthy and nutritious food at schools, so that they receive energy from it, while not piling on the pounds.
They need to be given healthy food such as vegetables, fruits, healthy sandwiches, with low fat cheese, yogurts, and skimmed milk. This shall provide them with the energy to go all day, while reducing their fat intake, which will definitely lead to healthier children. Children can become vulnerable to an array of diseases if they don't control their exploding waist lines as soon as possible. There is need for more awareness to be spread about eating healthy and it would be great if this could start with the example of healthy food for them at schools.
"As parents, we try to prepare decent meals, limit how much junk food our kids eat and ensure they have a reasonably balanced diet", said first lady Michelle Obama. She further added that when so much effort is being put by the parents, it wouldn't be pleasant to see it all being undone at school cafeterias.
