Google Asked to Rethink About Planned Consolidation

As per reports, it has been revealed that an investigation is going to be launched soon to find out whether or not Google has violated an agreement which it signed with the US Federal Trade Commission.

Republican lawmaker Edward Markey is the one of those going to initiate the probe as concerns have been raised that the recent changes made by Google are breaching user privacy. However, he is not alone who thinks this way as there are eight other US lawmakers having the same concerns.

Markey has even sent a letter to Google expressing his concerns in the matter, and have affirmed that he do not find a planned consolidation to be good medium. In addition to the request, he has also requested the Federal Trade Commission to check that Google is not violating their privacy agreement.

Not much time has passed when Google announced that it has been unifying its 60 policies and would consider most of Google products as a single trove of data. It raised concerns among the lawmakers as well as the users. They are of the view that consumers would be having a lot of problems in maintaining their privacy.

The letter sent to Google Chief Executive Larry Page read: "While Google suggests that the purpose of this shift in policy is to make the consumer experience simpler, we want to make sure it does not make protecting consumer privacy more complicated".

There were both republicans and democratic who signed the letter. Some of the democratic signatories included Markey, Henry Waxman, Dianne De-Gette and Jackie Speier. Those from the side of republicans included Cliff Stearns, Joe Barton and Marsha Blackburn. Till now, Google has not responded to the letter.
