New Alliance Formed To Fight Tropical Diseases

As per reported information, it has got revealed that 13 drug makers and many health organizations have united with the government to eliminate 10 tropical diseases by 2020. Some of the known drug companies and health organizations which have taken the pledge with the government are Astra and Glaxo and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The newly formed alliance has said that in total they are working on 17 tropical diseases and would make sure that they eliminate five diseases with the end of the decade. For this, they would be providing approximately 1.4bn treatments in a year and has also promised to speed up their research work.

By speeding up the research work, they would be able to share the new development more quickly, which would further help to control the diseases like Chagas disease which kills more than 10,000 people in a year.

Sir Andrew Witty, who is the Glaxo's Chief Executive said, "Many companies and organisations have worked for decades to fight these horrific diseases. But no one company or organization can do it alone. We pledge to work hand-in-hand to revolutionize the way we fight these diseases now and in the future".

It is expected that the new alliance would be able to decrease the burden of the developing countries where more than 1 billion people gets affected with diseases which has no easy solution. The World Bank, the UK and US government is also part of the alliance.

Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer and Abbott have also joined the alliance despite having rivalry with each other. They said that nothing is more important than humanity and they are just contributing their bit.

It has also been revealed that some of the drug companies were already involved in drug donation. This alliance has just given them another goal to achieve.
