CHOP Denies Reviewing Decision over Stratford Girl’s Transplant

It seems that the controversy surrounding the denial of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia to provide organ transplant to a mentally under-developed would take its time to die down. There has been enough said about the case where parents of Amelia were turned down by the officials of the hospital to conduct organ transplant on the girl suffering from a developmental disability called Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome.

However, the Officials at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia have made it clear that there is no need to review the decision they had taken earlier about the disabled Stratford girl. They would stick to the same decision. However, the parents of the girl, Joseph and Chrissy Rivera, were of the view that they were told “we’re moving forward” by the officials there.

A spokesperson from the hospital has denied confirming if the couple had come to meet the doctors or not. Even, the couple could not be reached for their response to the hospital’s denial.

Earlier this week, the website of the hospital had said that though they understand why the public is so enraged at the case, they would surely be doing what possibly they could do in their capacity. “We are also taking action to review all existing policies to make sure that they reflect the core values we live by, including our deep commitment to not discriminate in any way”, the website quoted.

There is even an online petition signed which is told to have been supported by 38,000 people who are of the view that the girl is entitled to get the organ, and there must not any sort of discriminations done to any one on the basis of disease he or she is facing.

While the case is raising lots of voices, it would be worth seeing if it could make the hospital change their decision in the time to come.
