Pfizer, one of the largest drug firms in the world, has admitted to have made a major blunder lately. For the same reason, they have had to call back about a million birth control tablets. This is because there has been an error due to which the drugs have got mixed in their packaging.
This error has increased the risk of the fact that the drugs are ineffective and expired as well. This might tend to put women at a high risk of unplanned pregnancies, because the medicines might be ineffective.
These pills, which have been made by Pfizer, had been marketed by the Akrimax pharmaceuticals brand, from New Jersey.
“An investigation by Pfizer found that some blister packs may contain an inexact count of inert or active ingredient- tablets and that the tablets may be out of sequence,’ ‘‘However, consumers exposed to affected packaging should begin using a non-hormonal form of contraception immediately”, revealed the firm in a recent revelation. There haven’t been any cases of ill health reported due to these errors, which is a good sign.
The firm apologized for their error and has said that they shall take care of the same in the future.
There is need to make sure that such human or mechanical errors do not happen in the pharmaceutical industry. This is because it might tend to have potentially dangerous consequences for the patients.
There is need to make sure that such mistakes are avoided, as it would mean unplanned pregnancies as well as a host other health risks for the women. The matter was revealed when a woman had noticed a pink placebo tablet in her white birth control pills.
The good part is that the problem has been fixed really soon, and it wouldn’t have adverse effects on the patients anymore.
