Singapore Researchers Develops Crab-Like Robot

As per recent reports, it has been revealed that a group of researchers from the Singapore National University Hospital has developed a robot, which mimics a crab. The miniature robot is said to be an effective way to remove early-stage stomach cancers.

Enterologist Lawrence Ho, who helped design the robot, told that the robot has a pincer and a hook which would remove the cancer and that too without leaving any scar. He further told that the robot would be entered into the gut through patient’s mouth.

It would also have a miniature camera which would help surgeons to control the movement of the robot. Explaining its working Ho told that the pincer is meant to hold the cancerous tissues and hook would cut it into pieces and would make sure that blood coagulates so there is no bleeding.

Ho said, "Our movements are very huge and if you want to make very fine movements, your hands will tremble ... But robots can execute very fine movements without trembling”. He further affirmed that they have conducted five surgeries in India and China and have received success in all of the cases.

Not only it is effective, but is also time for saving. Ho said that it took them just fraction of seconds to conduct surgery. It would not have possible if they would have used conventional method to remove tumor from stomach.

Ho quipped that it would not be wrong to say that they got an inspiration to develop crab robot from Singapore's famous chilli crab dish. If one would see the dish, they would get to know that their robot is identical copy of it.

Robot surgeries are not a new trend to conduct surgeries. Increasingly surgeons across the globe are adopting this way as robotic surgeries are quite successful and even take less time and success chances are great.
