As per an investigation that appeared in the British Medical Journal, people who have completed their first course treatment in regard to cancer should perform light exercises, and should try to return to their normal routine. Engaging in physical activity would help them to improve their health.
The study researchers from Hong Kong University told that they would advise cancer patients who have completed their primary cancer-related treatment to indulge in physical activities to improve their quality of life.
In order to reach at the above conclusion, the study researchers took 34 cases and assessed them on the basis of their physical output. All the cases were of cancer patients who have been suffering from prostate, breast, and lung, colorectal, gynecologic or gastric cancer. The average age of volunteers was 55 years.
The improvement was being assessed on the basis of certain factors such as oxygen consumption, depression, BMI, body weight, handgrip strength and QOL, told the study researchers. All the participants were assessed for 13 weeks. On the basis of evaluation, it got revealed that breast cancer patients were greatly benefitted from aerobics.
Major improvements were seen in younger lot, but as per the study researchers, they need to do conduct a further study which could tell them more about the effects of the physical activity on cancer patients.
"Quality of life was a clear significant benefit of physical activity and that clinically, there were important positive effects on physical functions and quality of life", said the study researchers.
The study is contradictory to many other researches which have told that cancer patients should not perform exercises as it is not healthy for them. It is one such study which has told that health improves by performing light exercises.
