With the pursuit of strengthening its position in the market, Telus has acquired Wolf Medical Systems. Telus is counted among the top-three wireless companies. Through the acquisition, it is planning to maximize its profits.
Although the announcement of the acquisition has been made, the term and agreements are yet to be disclosed. The price on which the acquisition has been carried out has also not been disclosed.
Wolf Medical Systems is an electronic medical records company. After acquiring the company, Telus is now urging medical professionals and institutes to use smartphones, tablets and computers for recording data.
It has been informed that the founder of Wolf Medical Systems, Brendan Byrne, would be the head of Telus's Physician Solutions unit. In 2010, Telus expressed its desire of becoming a major role player in the Canada's healthcare industry.
Moreover, in 2010, the company invested $800-million towards healthcare-related technology. The investment was made during a period of three years. The company is of the view that the expenditure of Canada over health would reach $250-billion by 2020.
The Vice-President of Telus Physical Solution, Byrne said, "Joining the Telus team is a tremendous opportunity for Wolf Medical Systems to fully realize our vision to be trusted by physicians to turn information into outcomes".
It has been reported that since 2010, about 11 million patients have used Wolf EMR. Every day, the system is used by the physician over 26,000 patients. Through the acquisition, the Wolf Medical's record-keeping would branch out into more mobile solutions, collaboration and consumer services.
It is hoped that through the acquisition, the Telus would be able to maximize its profits and would also be able to improve its market position.
