With the aim of raising funds for the Alzheimer's Society, a walk was conducted on Saturday. About two dozen participants took part in the event. With help of the activity, the Alzheimer's society was able to raise more than $4,300.
The funds raised this time were 14% more than those done last year. The top raisers were Tricia Davies and David Shilton who raised an amount of $1855 in one team. Last year, the Alzheimer's Society conducted a survey to gauge the prevalent waiting time period for an Alzheimer's patient to see a doctor.
About half of the participants of the study said that they had to wait for a period of one year to see the doctor. Later, it was found that the Alzheimer's cases are taken seriously by medical professionals. Therefore, the Alzheimer's Society has drafted few guidelines to help people in understanding the disease better.
There are a total of ten symptoms which can be easily taken up by patients and their family members. A person affected with Alzheimer's disease would experience memory loss which would cause a hindrance for him in performing day-to-day activities.
Secondly, a victim of Alzheimer's would find it hard to perform simple and familiar tasks. Fumbling while speaking could also be a symptom of Alzheimer's. The judgment of a person also turns poor after being affected with the disease.
Misplacing things, difficulty recalling or remembering time and place are some more symptoms of Alzheimer's. A person affected with Alzheimer's often struggle with mood swings. Moreover, a change in the personality of a person is also witnessed.
Alzheimer's affects millions of people in the elder age. A patient affected by Alzheimer's should be provided with adequate care and treatment. These patients are not capable of taking care of themselves, and therefore they have to rely on others for help.
