In a bid to make sure that there is no one infected with listeria, a Minnesota food company has ordered to call back over a million hard-cooked eggs from the market across 34 states. It was told that the eggs were produced at the company's plant in Wakefield, Neb., and from there, distributors bought the eggs. However, there are no reports as such of any human illness.
It has been further confirmed that the suspected eggs are sold under the six brand names: Columbia Valley Farms; GFS; Glenview Farms; Papetti's; Silverbrook; and Wholesome Farms.
It was after a lab test that it came to notice that some of the eggs could have been infected while they were packed there. Keeping the severity of the infection in consideration, the company recalled a huge chunk sold. Listeria could make one suffer from health issues and can show symptoms like as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Kids are found to be most under the threat of the infection, while would be mums could have miscarriage and still births. There is need for awareness spread about the same in the contours of the society, thus people can take preventive measures from their end.
It has been known that Listeria from cantaloupes has affected as many as 146 people across 28 states last year and perhaps this is what makes the concerned authorities to come to swift action as soon as they get even a flick of doubt over the same infection.
The U. S. Food and Drug Administration said that they have extended the recall after three lots as they feel that there could be more such suspected eggs flooding in the market. However, it is necessary that Michael Foods take every possible measure to rein in the control over suspected eggs in the market.
