In a recent report, the wide spread demand of unpasteurized milk has been identified among the residents on the East Coast. There have been warnings sent about the side effects of such unprocessed milk, but it seems that people have by and large ignored the calls.
There are reports indicating that as many as 38 cases in four states have been linked with an outbreak of campylobacter illness in a dairy in Pennsylvania. Though the suspected farm has been instructed to sale more milk, the root cause cannot be overlooked. Health experts are of the view that those suffering from Campylobacter are at the risk of diarrhea, cramping, abdominal pain, and fever. Even death in some serious cases is near possibility.
As of now, there are as many as 20 states banning the raw milk sales altogether, but people some or the other way find access to such products. It has been known that there are many pathogens present in cow milk, including campylobacter, salmonella, listeria, E. coli and others. There is need to make people understand that they must take good care of themselves to avoid any attached risk of stroke, kidney failure, paralysis or death.
One must not overlook the fact that pasteurization can kill many germs and this is why it is being recommended by health experts. Even pasteurized milk is found to have proteins, carbohydrates and other nutrients, which are required for a healthy life.
"To outlaw or ban any natural food because it could possibly make you sick is an extreme position, because there is no safe food", said Kimberly Hartke of the Weston A. Price Foundation, who is of the opinion that there are many more illnesses triggered from leafy greens, deli meats and other products as compared to raw milk.
