Stir over the controversial health bill proposed by Health Secretary Andrew Lansley is not at all in the mood of settling down, as GPs and medical professionals are asking the government to scrap the bill immediately.
The GPs are of the view that the contents of the bill would cause damages to the NHS, which would be difficult to repair. The NHS is already facing financial challenges and it is not at all ready to take up yet another challenge of the controversial bill.
The bill was proposed by the Andrew Lansley last year. But still, it has not been able to win the support of majority. A majority of the medical professionals are against the bill. However, there are a few who believe that the bill holds potential of bringing revolution in the working of NHS.
With the pursuit of winning the support of the opposition, a large number of amendments were called in the bill. However, the amendments failed to win the support of the opposition. Looking at the controversies over the bill, the Royal College of General Practitioners, recently sent a written application to the Prime Minister, asking him to scrap the bill.
The College is of the view that the bill would break the NHS in different parts for performing different functions rather than bringing unity in it. Moreover, rumors have also been raised regarding Andrew Lansley’s plans of privatizing the NHS.
Dr. Clare Gerada, the Chairman of the Royal College for GPs said, “We cannot sit back. We must raise our concerns in the hope that the Prime Minister will halt this damaging, unnecessary and expensive reorganization which, in our view, risks leaving the poorest and most vulnerable in society to bear the brunt”.
