After almost weeks of investigation over the outbreak of salmonella, investigators have finally broken the ice by informing that Taco Bell, Mexican-style restaurant, caused the outbreak. It has been informed that the outbreak was reported in October, 2011.
Since then, an investigation over the case has been carried out. The outbreak led to the hospitalization of 20 people and made about 68 people sick. Almost all the cases of poisoning took place at Texas. Although it has been informed that the outbreak took place at the Taco Bell, the authorities have not able t o pinpoint as to which food product caused the outbreak.
In a report, Oklahoma State Department of Health noted that as many as 16 victims of salmonella outbreak had eaten at Taco Bell before falling terribly ill. Taco Bell has taken the comments of the Health Department quite seriously. It said that Taco Bell takes the quality of the food seriously.
In the past few weeks, when the investigation was being carried out, the investigators of Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control attracted criticism, as they were not disclosing the name of the restaurant that might have caused the outbreak.
The investigators had been keeping mum over the case, as their policy doesn’t allow naming the organizations. Although the investigators have hinted that Taco Bell could be one of those restaurants which caused the outbreak, they have not solely found it responsible for causing an outbreak.
It has been informed that in the past six years, Taco Bell has been linked to many other outbreaks, which led to the hospitalization of the consumers. In 2006, an outbreak of E. coli at the restaurant made as many as 71 people sick.
