Recently, researchers of Melbourne have claimed in a study that tough to pronounce name can damage one’s identity. According to them easy to pronounce name leaves a positive mark over others. However, people with hard to pronounce name finds it complicated to win the hearts of their friends and colleagues.

Lead author of the study, Dr. Simon Laham said that names helps in identifying people. The findings of the study have been published in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology. For the study, the researchers looked at verity of surnames.

During the study, the researchers found the name of Melbourne software expert and translator most difficult to pronounce. Oksana Katorjevskaya, the software expert said that her colleagues and client had found it extremely hard to pronounce her name right.

While explaining her experience of findings others difficulty to pronounce her name she said that she had felt insulted. It has been informed that Oksana Katorjevskaya is from Russia and she holds masters degree in linguistics.

The researchers of America have also agreed with the findings of Melbourne scientists. Dr. Adam Alter from the New York University’s Stern School of Business noted that people are not just aware as to how much impact our name plays over shaping others perspective about us. Dr. Adam Alter said, “People simply aren’t aware of the subtle impact that names can have on their judgments”.

The researchers have come up with yet another notion that people with easy to pronounce names have higher chances of being promoted. Moreover, for them winning the trust of others is also easier for them. They also tend to do well in the political atmosphere of the office. So in short, people should pay attention to their names while applying for jobs!
