Man Denied Treatment Because He Is an Illegal Immigrant

In a recent report, it has been revealed that the UCSF Medical Center shall go ahead with performing the kidney transplant operation on the man, who had said that he is being denied of the operation due to problems in immigration.

The name of the man is Jesus Navarro and the hospital has agreed to provide him a surgery. There have been conditions laid on him though. He has been asked by the hospital authorities to provide proof, that he is capable of paying his medical bills. He is 35-years-old, and is allegedly, an illegal immigrant.

He is suffering from a kidney disease and is in need of a transplant. He received national attention when he was denied operation by the hospital. For the same reason, there were thousands of petitions signed online that urged the hospital authorities to give treatment to the man. The cost of medication for the major operation might range from $10,000 to $60,000 for each year.

"Whether people are documented or not, this issue of assuring coverage for very, very expensive care is critical, health care financing system is so fragmented it puts people in a real bind. That bind is even more limiting for people who are undocumented”, said Dr. Joshua Adler, UCSF's Chief Medical Officer.

There is need for the authorities to find a middle way in this regard that would benefit the man as well as them. They need to formulate such plans that can render treatment for the man, at affordable cost, without him having to suffer a lot in the ordeal. There is need for the hospital to help the man, at least on humanitarian grounds.

This shall help the man in getting treatment, and the structure of care of the hospital remaining intact as well.
