A recent study has found that eating too much of food could severely affect the memory of the elders. According to the researchers of the study, the consumption of more than 2,100 calories could lead to `mild cognitive impairment' among the elders.
It has been proclaimed by the researchers that limited eating could help in preventing brain related diseases like Alzheimer. The study was conducted by the scientists of the US, who looked at the eating habits of 1,200 people belonging to an age group of 70 to 89.
The participants of the study were free from dementia disease. The participants are asked to go through memory test, during the study. It was found that those who were in the habit of eating more calories than required had two times higher risk of developing brain related diseases.
About 163 participants of the study developed memory problems when they were exposed to high calorie food. Factors like, education level, health history related to strokes and diabetes were also kept in mind while drawing conclusion.
It has been informed that the participants were divided in three different groups and different level of calories was given to them. The first group was provided with 600 to 1,500 calories a day, the second was asked to consume 1,500 to 2,100 calories a day and the third group consumed 2,100 to 6,000 calories a day.
While concluding the study, the study author Dr. Yonas Geda said, "We observed a dose-response pattern, which means: the higher the number of calories consumed each day, the higher the risk. Cutting calories and eating foods that make up a healthy diet may be a simpler way to prevent memory loss as we age". Dr. Yonas Geda noted that the consumption of healthy food can be beneficial for the elders.
