NSW Government under Fire for Faulty Computer System

The failure of NSW government in providing timely information about the defects and problems in the working of the computer systems of the emergence wards has put the government in a tight position as opposition is hurling critical comments on it.

It has been informed that the FirstNet computer system has been bothering the doctors and medical professionals in getting the information and data. According to the information released by the freedom-of-information laws, the medical professionals are made to invest extra time over the system while getting data and in updating data.

It has further come to light that the medical staff are not attuned with the working of the computer system which further prove wastage of time as the staff had to spend extra time over it. There are just a few cases in which the FirstNet was worked effectively. But in the majority of the cases, the computer system has resulted into poor performance of the hospitals.

Although it has been reported that the FirstNet is hard to work on, no incident has found in which a patient's health had been put under pressure because of faulty working of the computer system. The NSW Opposition has criticized the government for not taking adequate steps to curb the problem.

According to the NSW Opposition, the NSW Government was made aware of the faulty working of the computer system but still no action was taken. Dr. Andrew McDonald, the health spokesperson from opposition party said, "The health minister (Jillian Skinner) has had a report warning her that patient care is at risk following problems with the ... computer system for six months and has done nothing about it". The opposition has further pointed out that the care of the patients has been delayed because of the defected computer system.
