As per a study that appeared in the journal of Experimental Social Psychology, it has been revealed that name has a lot of effect on a person's individuality. A team of American and Australian researchers have revealed about eth concept known as 'name pronunciation effect'.
Study author Dr. Simon Laham, from Melbourne University, told that simple names are way to success. One gets quick promotions in office as well as makes friends very easily. Not only this, people who have easy names are perceived to be simple and intelligent people.
Co-author of the study, Dr. Adam Alter from New York University's Stern School of Business, told that it is not about the length of the name or about origin of the name. It is about level of difficulty in spelling the name.
Alter said that they conducted a field study in which their main aim was to judge that what people think about others when they hear their names. It would not be wrong to say that it was one of the extensive study ever been conducted.
They surveyed more than 500 university students from different nationalities like Anglo people, Asian communities and European backgrounds. This did not mark the end of their survey as they asked other 500 American lawyers as well about it.
Survey revealed that pronounceable name is an easy win to get success in offices. Moreover, at personal level also it is quite beneficial among friends and relatives. Alter said that they were asked to rate the difficulty level of names and found that easy names were more likely to win votes.
Laham said, "Having a simple, easy-to-pronounce name is more likely to win you friends and favor in the workplace. The effect is not due merely to the length of a name or how foreign-sounding or unusual it is, but rather how easy it is to pronounce".
