Scientific Equation behind the Shape of Ponytail Unveiled

A recent study, conducted by a team of British researchers, has claimed of having resolved the mystery behind the shape of ponytail. The findings of the researchers have been published in the Physical Review Letters journal.

The researchers for long have been questioning over the shape of ponytail. However, it is for the very first time when they have found a mathematical equation behind the shape of a ponytail. Hair strand is smooth and elegant, and thus is capable of giving any shape to the ponytail. But what makes hair so flexible has been a question over the mind of scientists for long.

The study was led by Professor Raymond Goldstein and Professor Patrick Warren from Cambridge University and Warwick University. While commenting on the study, Raymond Goldstein said, ".simple mathematical form which speaks immediately to the way in which the random curliness of hair swells a ponytail is deeply satisfying. Physicists aim to find simplicity out of complexity, and this is a case in point".

The findings of the study would be presented in a meeting by the American Physical Society. The meeting would be organized in the end of March. The researchers, for long, have been brooding over the concept of hairstyle.

The recent study has helped the researchers in understanding that the elasticity, density and curliness play vital role in giving hairs the desired shape. Who knew that hairstyle could be a subject of fascination for medical community ever?

It is amazing as to how they have resolved the puzzle by using mathematics and physics. It is known that there is a scientific reason behind everything that happens on earth. However, these are efforts of the scientists which helped in understanding the science behind such minor things.
