Scottish Women Can get Their PIP Implants Removed Through NHS

Scotland has taken a lead over the UK by asking all the women, who have undergone PIP implants, to approach the NHS for implant removal if private clinics put unacceptable conditions for the task.

It is estimated that 4,000 women in Scotland have undergone PIP implants, which have been made with non-medical grade silicon. The substance can be quite toxic if it ruptures inside. Understanding the problem of women, Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon met with all the women, who have undergone the PIP implant surgery.

She has clearly announced that there is no need to accept private clinic conditions, which are immoral. They can approach the NHs for removal surgeries. Some of the conditions, which private clinics have been putting in front of women to remove the PIP implants, are to sign a gagging order.

They have also asked women to sign a contract which ensures that women will not sign a legal case against them in future due to any reason. Campaign group PIP Implants Scotland told that it is a big step and now women will be able to avail any kind of medical treatment from the NHS as well as from any other public clinic.

A spokesperson for the Scottish government said, “We are supportive of the group and have been very clear that private healthcare providers have an obligation to give their patients the same level of care as our NHS”.

It shall however be noticed that the NHS will only remove the faulty implant and will provide medical consultation. They are not going to replace the implants, said spokesperson for the Scottish government.

Sturgeon knows the seriousness of the matter and has taken the right step. Women are having sleepless nights, but the right decision will surely help them, said Trisha Devine, who is spokeswoman for the PIP campaign group.
