A few such incidents happen in life that shake a person so badly that he is not able to forget it even in his dreams. The same thing has happened with Dr. Hari Ravindranathan, who is a consultant at Sydney Children's Hospital at Randwick.
He is not able to forget the death of a four-year-old girl Chanel Costa, who lost her life in hospital on July 18, 2008. He told about his sleepless nights at Glebe Coroners Court, where inquest hearing was going on in regard to her death.
Costa was taken to Nepean hospital on July 15 as her temperature dropped to 39.5 degrees and she started having seizures. The doctors present at Nepean Hospital were not able to treat her and she was later taken to the Randwick hospital.
Her treatment revealed that she has been suffering from cerebral oedema, in which brain swells. But they were not able to treat her as the condition has deteriorated to a great extent. However, Glebe Coroner's Court told that Costa would have been alive if she would have been given emergency treatment during her transfer trip to Randwick hospital.
Stephen and Angela Costa, parents of Costa told that a lot was wasted when ambulance crew was waiting to get permission from the authorities concerned to provide emergency treatment. The hospital as well as the staff has let them down completely.
"They just kept saying to that she was going to be fine and everything was normal ... we had no option but to sit there and watch our Chanel deteriorate”, said Costa parents. They have seen their daughter dying in front of them, but they could not do anything as they thought everything will be fine.
