In what authorities are calling the worst bee attack around Las Vegas in 20 years, on Saturday, a 53-year-old man was hospitalized after being stung "a couple thousand times"!
But the bee nuisance did not stop there. On Thursday a 79-year-old woman was stung 30 to 50 times by the Africanzed bees and her 82-year-old husband was stung 20 times, as reported by San Diego 6 News.
A 36-year-old woman and her 5-year-old son also fell prey to the stinging bees.
The La Mesa Fire Department and a professional beekeeper had to be called in to annihilate the hive situated on the roof of a house. The firemen used a fire extinguisher with soapy water to "neutralize" the hive.
"They (the bees) have a bad attitude," said beekeeper Mike Zito. "They're a lot more aggressive, and they're a lot more territorial."
These Africanized bees are not native to U. S. but they are pretty well established in southern Nevada.
In another incident, in 2000 a 77-year-old Las Vegas woman was stung about 500 times but managed to survive, and in 2003, a horse in Pahrump died after being attacked.
