Sony has recently unveiled its high-definition camcorder HDR-TG5V - the enticing compact video camera, fitted with a GPS receiver and capable of geotagging recorded videos and still photos!
The GPS receiver, the built-in support for Navteq digital maps, and the ability to add location data to recorded files, enable the users to view maps and find geotagged locations on the on a 2.7-inch LCD. For Windows users, the camcorder has inclusive PC software for geotagging information on a map; and for Mac users, the facility can be accessed via iPhoto '09's Places feature.
A noteworthy combination of the small-shaped Flip cameras and the high-end features of the bigger cameras, the HDR-TG5V camcorder uses a 1/5-inch Exmor CMOS sensor to shoot 1920-by-1080 high-def video and click 4-megapixel photos.
The 16 GB internal flash memory of the camcorder not only is adequate for saving enough snaps, but also allows nearly six hours of high-def video. In case, a user needs more space, the camcorder provides for an additional Memory Stick PRO Duo to increase storage capacity.
Scheduled to hit the showrooms in May, the US$1,000-priced HDR-TG5V is laden with features like: built-in flash; 10X optical zoom; Dolby Digital stereo recording with a built-in zoom microphone; slow motion recording mode; HDMI and USB 2.0 ports; and a rechargeable battery; along with smile shutter, face detection, and image stabilization!
