Just three months after achieving the 150 million user milestone, the social networking site Facebook on Wednesday claimed that the number of its active users has surpassed 200 million. The chief executive officer of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg proudly announced that Facebook has achieved 200 million active users milestone.
On his Facebook blog, Zuckerberg wrote, "Growing rapidly to 200 million users is a really good start, but we've always known that in order for Facebook to help people represent everything that is happening in their world, everyone needs to have a voice. This is why we are working hard to build a service that everyone, everywhere can use, whether they are a person, a company, a president or an organization working for change."
Celebrating the achievement of 200 million active users milestone, Facebook has got linked up with 16 charities and advocacy groups this week. Zuckerberg mentioned some other achievements of Facebook, like President Barack Obama's and French President Nicolas Sarkozy's use of the social networking site as an organizing tool.
Facebook, which was once thought to be second to MySpace, attracted almost 222 million unique visitors in December, while MySpace got 125 million. Facebook achieved the 150 million user milestone in January. According to Hitwise, Facebook recorded a 149% increase in the number o its US visitors in February 2009, against February
2008.
