Facebook leaves final decision about privacy policy to “active” users

Keeping its word, Facebook is leaving the final decision about its privacy policy to the users! In its poll opened late Thursday, Facebook has asked its users to select either a ‘Yes’ or a ‘No’ option with regard to whether the company’s terms of service should be changed or not.

Facebook founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, in a post titled "Governing the Facebook Site," urges the users to indicate their choice on the ballot. All the “active Facebook users” - members who have logged into the site within the past one month - can cast their vote on the ballot page by 11:59 a.m. PDT on April 23.

However, Facebook said that the results of the poll would be binding only if at least 30 percent of the "active" members participate.

Though the proposed vote follows the widespread debate about Facebook’s changed and again re-changed terms of service, it brings concerns of its own – with over 200 million “active” users, more than 60 million will have to vote to make the opinion count.

Voicing the concern, Julius Harper Jr., the founder of the protesting group, said: "My concern is - how realistic it is to expect 30 percent of people who have logged into Facebook at least once in the previous 30 days to participate?"
