Washington  - Major US stock indices produced mixed results in Wednesday trading.

The blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 82.99 points, or 1.04 per cent, to 7,886.57. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 Index lost 6.53 points, or 0.77 per cent, to 843.55. The technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index edged up 2.27 points, or 0.14 per cent, to 1,646.12.

The US currency dropped against the euro to 76.911 euro cents from 77.29 euro cents on Tuesday. The dollar plummeted against the Japanese currency to 97.89 yen from 98.72 yen on Tuesday. (dpa)
