Angels & Demons beats Star Trek at US box office

Los Angeles  - Angels & Demons topped the newest Star Trek film at the US box office over the weekend.

Studio estimates showed the Da Vinci Code prequel based on the hit novel by Dan Brown and starring Tom Hanks earned 48 million dollars in its opening weekend. Trekkies brought in 43 million dollars to ensure the crew of the Starship Enterprise second place in its second weekend.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine landed at place three with 14.8 million dollars, after opening three weeks ago to 85 million dollars. Romantic comedy Ghosts of Girlfriends Past with Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner was in fourth place with 7 million dollars, and thriller Obsessed with R&B star Beyonce Knowles earned 4.6 million dollars in fifth place.
