Grammy award-winning singer Natalie Cole undergoes kidney transplant

Going by a statement given by Natalie Cole's publicist, the US singer has undergone a kidney transplant surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. The 59-year-old Grammy Award-winning singer was on a thrice-a-week dialysis since September.

Diagnosed with hepatitis C in February 2008, Cole - daughter of the legendary performer, the late Nat King Cole - earlier remarked that she thought she had contracted the infirmity during the course of her de-addiction treatment for cocaine and heroin.

In the Wednesday statement issued to CNN, Cole's publicist said that after a successful kidney transplant surgery on Tuesday, the artist was "resting comfortably" in Los Angeles hospital. The representative added that as per the advice of her physicians, Cole would have to reschedule her summer tour dates, since she would need three or four months for complete post-surgery recuperation.

The publicist said that not before long the rescheduled concert dates for Cole's tour will likely be announced. The proposed tour, which would have to be postponed, is in support of her recent double-Grammy-winning CD - "Still Unforgettable."
