Night at the Museum draws in US moviegoers

Los Angeles - New installments of old favourites drew moviegoers to the theatre over a long holiday weekend in the United States that traditionally marks the start of summer.

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, the second installment of Ben Stiller's action/comedy hit was winning at the US box office with an estimated 53.5 million dollars through Sunday.

In second place, Terminator Salvation starring Christian Bale earned 43 million dollars. While Star Trek took third place, earning another 22 million dollars from its loyal fans and grossing 184 million dollars in just three weeks.

DaVinci Code prequel Angels & Demons earned 21.4 million dollars for fourth place. The film based on the hit novel by Dan Brown and starring Tom Hanks fell from first place at its opener last week.

It was followed by newcomer Dance Flick with 11.1 million dollars in fifth place.

The three-day-long Memorial Day weekend continues through Monday with the box office haul expected to continue. (dpa)
