The Silicon Valley startup Skyfire has officially launched version 1.0 of its free third-party mobile browser 'Skyfire' for Windows Mobile and Symbian phones. In early 2008, the company had introduced the Skyfire 0.9 browser, which added Adobe Flash and Microsoft Silverlight capability to Windows Mobile and Symbian smartphones.
The recently-announced version can be downloaded at get. skyfire. com.
Thus far, more than one million consumers have installed and used the Skyfire browser. Most of the issues that users face with Skyfire 0.9 are related to usability problems - which include speed, the touch interface, and the lack of comprehensive page view options.
However, by and large, Skyfire can be deemed a stable and serious effort from the startup company, which has come to its first full release with a reasonably fast and solid mobile browser offering. The browser's key strength is streaming video, along with its social bend.
Though for the beta users Skyfire 1.0 will not be a dramatic alteration from version 0.9 beta, there surely are some evident changes to the browser's interface design from its earlier version, like the substitution of featured links with a customizable RSS feed, and upgraded navigation and page rendering speed.
In addition, the Skyfire 1.0 version supports Flash 10, Silverlight 2, Ajax, and Javascript; and allows users to share and publish pages on Facebook and Twitter with a single click!
