New York - Up, the latest Pixar animation film about the airborne adventure of a cranky old man and an overly-energetic boy scout, shot to the top of North American weekend box office returns like the hot-air balloons the movie is all about.
A hefty 68.2 million dollars flew into the film's debut cash box, Box Office Mojo reported Sunday online.
Another family film, Ben Stiller's Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, dropped to second place with 25.5 million dollars. Now in its second week, the comedy about a night museum guard on whose watch exhibits come alive has taken in a total of 105.3 million dollars - about half of Star Trek's four-week-take of 209.5 million dollars.
Star Trek dropped to fifth place this week, with a take of 12.8 million dollars.
Third and fourth place were swept by Drag Me to Hell, from Spider Man director Sam Raimi (16.6 million dollars), and Terminator Salvation (16.1 million dollars.)
They were followed by Angels and Demons, with 11.2 million dollars; Dance Flick, with 4.9 million dollars; X-Men Origins: Wolverine Fox, with 3.9 million dollars; Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, with 1.9 million dollars; and Obsessed, with 665,000 dollars. (dpa)
