With the Computex 2009 show, from June 2 to 6 in Taipei, Taiwan, set to kick off, leading chip-maker Intel Monday used the spotlight on the show to introduce three new Core 2 Duo mobile processors, along with the launch of an ultra-low-voltage Pentium processor, particularly designed for ultra-thin laptops.
Introducing the new processors, Uday Marty - Director of Product Marketing for Intel's Mobile Platforms Group - said that all four of them possess better performance-per-watt specifications vis-à-vis their predecessors. In fact, the top processor - the Core 2 Duo T9900 - is a 3.06GHz device, thereby marking it as the first Core
2 Duo mobile chip above 3.0GHz.
With Santa Clara, California-based Intel having 40 computer-makers presently in the process of building notebooks around the new parts - with quite a few working on ultra-thin models - Intel's newly-launched lighter and power-efficient microprocessor, particularly for ultra-thin laptops, is the company's apparent move to prop up its lead in mobile computing.
Marty said that Intel is optimistic about the prospects of the ultra-thin market and expects "explosive growth" this year, quite like the netbook growth. Marty said: "There's been a change in usage patterns. The way people are living their lives has changed dramatically as this 'Thin is in' phase plays out. And 'Thin is in' has finally reached computers."
