After achieving positive results from its two Phase III trials of `vilazodone' - the potential drug for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD) - the biotechnology company Clinical Data has announced its decision to file a New Drug Application with Food and Drug Administration, by the end of this year.
As per the Clinical Data's experimental study pertaining to the drug, the results have achieved the key aim of diminishing depression symptoms, as measured by a statistical severance from a fake drug, in the Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale.
In consistency with its earlier Phase III trial, the drug was generally well-endured, thereby establishing the drug's effectiveness as well as safety of use.
About the potential depression drug, Clinical Data said: "In addition, study findings corroborate that effects of vilazodone on sexual function were comparable to placebo, an important finding since many antidepressants have been associated with causing or exacerbating sexual dysfunction."
In addition, Clinical Data officials said that the study revealed noteworthy improvements in the `anxiety' symptoms pertaining to MDD.
While the company's last-stage trial had also undertaken to study a specific biomarker, if any, to identify the patients who would benefit from the vilazodone drug in particular, officials said that though they had not yet met any success in this regard, the company would continue its endeavors on this front!
