Panasonic's most recent ultra-light HD camcorders - the AVCHD HDC-TM10 and HDC-SD10 - will become available in the US September onwards. Both the high-definition camcorders, which Panasonic unveiled at CES earlier this year, are, as per the company claims, "the world's lightest full-HD AVCHD camcorders."
The latest SD10/TM10 camcorder duo replaces its respective predecessor pair, the TM20 and SD20. Though the costs of the new models remains the same as the earlier ones - $550 and $600 respectively for SD20 and TM20, but some definite improvements compared to the older counterparts.
Both the new camcorders do away with the redundant 5.1 surround audio, replacing it with a more basic stereo mic system. Though still equipped with 16x zooms, the new camcorders also swap the earlier Leica lens to a Panasonic lens, which slot in the company's new Active optical image stabilization. Moreover, the newer models are a wee bit lighter and comparatively more compact than the older versions.
While the HC-SD10 records 1920-by-1080 video to SD/SDHC card with the AVCHD codec, the HDC-TM10 records the video to both an 8GB flash drive and SD/SDHC cards.
Both camcorders power on once their touchscreen LCDs are flipped, boasting a quick, 1.9-second power-up time. Each of the models, fitted with Panasonic's Intelligent Auto mode, also features a pre-recording buffer to help action shooters capture hard-to-catch shots!
