Though Sony recently launched its new PlayStation Portable-Go (PSP-Go) for $250, and said at E3 that the company is "happy with its price point" for the present, IndustryGamers has come up with the buzz that Sony might go in for a $100 price reduction for its PlayStation 3 in August.
Going by the IndustryGamers' article, the rumored cut in the PS3 hardware price would likely come around the time when Electronics Arts releases its Madden NFL 10 in stores.
In his most recent industry note, analyst Arvind Bhatia, of Sterne Agee, has reported that "industry sources indicate Sony is planning a $100 price cut on the PS3 in mid-August, just prior the launch of Madden (8/18) and the start of the back to school shopping season. This will naturally be a positive for the industry."
Expecting that the sources actually do come out right about the price-cut in Sony's PSP3, IndustryGamers opines that the gaming industry is currently in need of economical gaming consoles, for a comparatively more robust momentum from last year.
Expectedly, a drop in price by Sony would trigger a price-cut by both Microsoft and Nintendo, who might also consider slash the prices of their respective consoles - Xbox 360 and Wii. Altogether, the price-cuts will help 2009 set yet another sales signpost for the gaming industry!
